History
Beginning in 2022, the Saxo Bank Women & Girls Sports 7s is the Gulf’s first club and school sports festival for women and girls aged 6 – 18 competing annually.
Hosted at the home of Dubai Hurricanes, the world famous ‘The Sevens Stadium’, the initial festival is a pool/group then knock-out competition for UAE and overseas clubs, and schools.
It is hoped that the inclusion of rounders will enable all UAE schools and as many girls as possible to participate; Whilst the rugby and netball competitions are invitation events, no eligible school would be refused entry upon application. All clubs and schools from overseas are invited to participate in the tournament.
Dubai Hurricanes was formed in the autumn of 1999. For our first few years we operated purely as a senior team social club, arranging friendly matches with the established club sides in the UAE and entering 7s and 10s tournaments throughout the Gulf and Asia.
Due to the dedication of our volunteers the club has grown significantly during our short history and we have witnessed huge success, and development, both on and off the pitch, in rugby, netball and now cricket.
2021 Dubai7s’ finalists Dubai Hurricanes are the reigning UAE RF Women’s Rugby 7s, U18 Girls Rugby 7s and U15 Girls Quick Rip league champions. The 2023 season will see the introduction of women and girls Cricket 7s.
